An Outbreak of Cutaneous Anthrax

Abstract
|
|
|
Six cases of cutaneous anthrax were presented and the literature was reviewed.
The outbreak of anthrax was caused by contact with handling of a dead cattle presumably due to Bacillus anthracis in a village of Kyung Pook province, October 1964.
Fifty-nine cases of 207 villagers who were in contact with the cattle, or who ate the raw meat of the dead cattle, suffered from headache, fever, chill, naurea and vomiting etc.
Among 59 sufferers, 3 cases died 3 to 4 days later and 6 patients developed typical cutaneous lesions on the foreams and hands.
All cases of cutaneous anthrax were cured by treatment with Chloramphenicol, Penicillin, Oxytetracycline and Sulfadiazine within 2 weeks.
